CHART MAKER
STI EMR [VIEW SCREEN SHOT] STI

ChartMaker® is a low cost, modular, Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system that integrates with Perfect Care for Windows® to create a complete, consistent, and legible patient chart.  Most consultants advise you not to buy a new Practice Management System that does not contain an EMR component. ChartMaker is a fully functional EMR system that helps you create E&M compliant patient notes, medical reports, letters, and more.  Pen-based, speech enabled, and template driven, ChartMaker is designed to be installed in a phased implementation to move the medical practice from a hand-written, manual chart system to an HFCA's E&M compliant electronic medical one.

Physician Concerns
Physicians told us that they were more concerned with organizing and viewing their patient records on the computer, and less interested in being a data input clerk."  They wanted their medical charts to be E&M compliant, provide referring physicians with timely reports, quickly print patient prescriptions and manage medications, have access to medical laboratory results in the patient record history, and track recalls and reminders from within the chart to provide better medical care.

The ChartMaker "phased implementation approach" is designed to reduce physician stress, and overcome these initial EMR complexities. The modular approach focuses on building patient content and providing medical staff with initial EMR benefits while they learn to use the system. Components are installed sequentially. For example, the integration of the ChartMaker generic template system with the Dragon Naturally Speaking Medical Suite voice recognition software, allows the immediate use of voice recognition as a fast and easy data input method directly into the electronic patient record.

Building Valuable Patient Content
ChartMaker allows for the storage and recall of patient notes created with Dragon NaturallySpeaking? in organized patient medical files and includes generic E&M templates for standard medical data input. ChartMaker includes the Dragon Naturally Speaking Medical Suite software as well as templates for tracking patient problems, medications, tests, allergies, and miscellaneous notes. Generic templates are also included to print patient summary sheets, patient handouts, and letters to referring physicians.

Once ChartMaker has been fully implemented and the physician staff is trained and familiar with its use, additional modules can be added. For example the ChartMaker Template Design module can be added for an additional charge to allow the physician and their staff to customize templates for specific needs and to provide personalized patient hand-outs and additional correspondence.

We Can Get You There
Most physicians that commit to computerizing their practice medical records envision themselves using a paperless system and accessing all patient data on computer workstations throughout the office. All patient charts are kept on the computer and the computer prepares all required medical documentation such as prescriptions, laboratory orders, patient handouts, and correspondence to other physicians. Everything happens with the click of a computer button and at almost hyper speed.

That is our vision too, but realistically it does not happen overnight. We can get you there, but our approach is a pragmatic one. We realize that there are a lot of necessary steps required to transition your practice from a paper-based environment to a paperless one.

One of the first goals is to build critical "patient content" so you will have something to access on your computers. Once you build patient content and you have confidence in using ChartMaker on a day-to-day basis, we can discuss a rollout method that meets your practice needs. Only then does a discussion of the types of computer options for your examination rooms make any sense.

Affordable
The cost of the ChartMaker System is so affordable that even the smallest medical practice can now implement a complete EMR system.  We provide on-site training visits that include both ChartMaker and Dragon Naturally Speaking voice recognition as part of the purchase cost. Additional training is your best investment. You can purchase additional training time for medical staff members once your free training period is completed.

Your First Step
The question that you need to consider is this. As you learn to use the new EMR software, what is the easiest way for a physician to initially enter patient information into your practice computer?  Although you have many input choices with ChartMaker, some methods are easier to use as you learn new computer skills. In the beginning, the easiest way to implement ChartMaker is the method that most closely mimics the way that you work today. With most physicians this means using paper checklists and/or voice dictation.  Once you learn to use the EMR, you can modify your data input techniques to match your computer skills, and add additional equipment through-out your office.
