Hardware Physical Requirements

Operational requirements – Electrical:

The servers currently being offered by STI Computer Services have the following electrical requirements per power supply. We require that the office have the appropriate number of electrical outlets for powering all purchased equipment and that the electrical drop has sufficient current to power the UPS, along with all attached devices. The electrical requirement of our current server offering is as follows:

Max Input Requirements:

Rated Line Voltage:           100 VAC, 120 VAC

                                          200 - 240 VAC

Rated Input Current:         10A (at 100 VAC)

                                          9A (at 120 VAC)

                                          6.1A (at 200 VAC)

Rated Input Frequency:    50 to 60 Hz

Rated Input Power:           980W (at 100 VAC)

                                          1035W (at 120 VAC)

                                          1170W (at 240 VAC)

Operational requirements - HVAC:

The servers offered by STI Computer Services are designed to operate in non data center environments, owing to the nature of the doctors’ offices in which the majority of these installations take place. However, system performance may be compromised should operating temperatures exceed 30°C (86°F) within the hardware itself. In those instances where a temperature fault might occur, a climate controlled environment will be required. Other remediation efforts, such as relocating the server out of direct sunlight, away from baseboard heating or other heat sources, should also take place.

Direct exposure to moisture is detrimental to the operation of any electronic equipment and we would require that the equipment placement be arranged in such a way to prevent contact with liquids of any sort and not be placed within an excessively humid environment. Should this arrangement prove difficult, it is recommended that the client allocate a dedicated environment where these requirements can be met.

Operational Requirements - Security:

We require our doctors to allocate a secured, non-public area in which to place their servers and other sensitive hardware.  Due to the nature and layout of offices, this is not always possible. In those instances where physical security is not possible, we require that the server never be left unattended with a logged in session, never be used as a workstation and configure the screen saver to password protect the console should it be left unattended for any reason.

Operational Requirements - Sterile Field:

There are no sterilization requirements which need to be met as our servers are typically stored in a non-surgical area.

Operational Requirements - Miscellaneous:

The work area surrounding the server should include a table or desk on which to place a monitor, keyboard and mouse for operation of the server/workstation.
