General Preferences

The General tab of the preferences area allows you to select the prescription printer, select the default fax program, set up the signature that appears at the bottom of notes, set chart prefix numbers, set the default birth sex when adding new patients, and set the default practice for ChartMaker® Clinical. Use the following steps to perform these tasks.

  1. Click Edit > Preferences.

  2. Click the General tab.

  3. In the Prescriptions field, select the Printer you would like to use for printing prescriptions.

  4. In the Fax field, select the Fax Program you would like to use as a default.

  5. In the Patient Prescription Savings Printer field, select the Printer in which the any patient saving (ScriptGuide and eCopay) materials will print in conjunction with the Patient Savings functionality when prescribing and renewing medications for patients.

NOTE: The Patient Prescription Savings Printer preference is configured for the user that is currently logged into Clinical, and the particular workstation that the user is logged into; the preference is per user/per workstation. Therefore, for each workstation that a user logs into Clinical, the preference will need to be configured for that workstation for that user. In other words, if a user utilizes multiple workstations throughout the office, they will need to log into each of those workstations and configure this preference.

  6. Click the Signature Edit button to Configure the Signature you want to appear at the bottom of chart notes for the user that is currently logged in.

  7. Uncheck the Show Dialog for Unsigned Notes if you want  you to turn off the initial pop-up that appears when logging into ChartMaker® Clinical if you have any unrecorded notes older than 10 days.

  8. Check the Apply Last Diagnosis Comment option if you want the system to default to Yes, the Apply Last Comment option in the Note Diagnosis dialog, which will automatically populate the Comments field with the last comment made from the preceding note.

  9. Check the Display unfilled Recalls when chart note is created option if you want an Unfulfilled Recalls and Patient Reminders dialog to appear when a new chart note is created for a patient if that patient has outstanding recalls, allowing you to easily fulfill any applicable recalls that this new note satisfies.

  10. Check the Display unfilled Physician Reminders when chart note is created option if you want an Unfulfilled Recalls and Patient Reminders dialog to appear when a new chart note is created for a patient if that patient has outstanding physician reminders, allowing you to easily fulfill any applicable reminders that this new note satisfies.

  11. Check the Display a warning when a SNOMED code is not selected option if you want a warning to be generated whenever a SNOMED code is not selected throughout the system for applicable chart items (diagnoses and procedures). Do note, that this preference option is set for individual users, therefore, if selected it will be activated for the user currently logged in.

  12. In the Prefix field, enter any Prefix that should be used for chart numbers.

  13. In the Defaults for New Patients section, select a default Birth Sex for when new patients are created, and then select a default Practice, if needed.

  14. In the Defaults for Notes section, select the Practice and/or the Provider you want to default when creating a new note.

When a practice is selected, the system will only default the selected practice if the patient is part of that practice. If the patient is part of another active practice, but is not part of the selected default practice, the system will default the patient’s active practice. If Practice field is left bank in this section, then the patient’s first active practice will default.

When a provider is selected in the Provider for Notes field for this user, that provider will default in the Provider field in note header and the Select Patient Provider pop-up dialog will not appear. If this field is blank for a user who is not a provider, then the Select Patient Provider pop-up dialog will appear. If this field is blank for a user who is also a provider, that user/provider will default in the Provider field in note header and the Select Patient Provider pop-up dialog will not appear.

  15. Check the Display appointments in military time option if you want the appointment times to appear in military format.

  16. When finished, click the OK button.
