Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances (EPCS)

The EPCS module allows the ability to securely prescribe and send controlled substances. The EPCS functionality works in conjunction with an IdenTrust USB token and certificate to ensure proper security (two-factor authentication protocol) per DEA regulations. All providers that perform EPCS must have a valid DEA number and be in good standing. A separate registration process is required to complete the EPCS functionality and for a prescriber to obtain the IdenTrust token and certificate. Once the IdenTrust token has been obtained and installed on the applicable workstations, you can link the provider to that token, configure logical access privileges to applicable providers (at least two must has this privilege, while at least one needs to be a token holder), and then setup and authorize applicable providers. After the applicable providers have been setup for EPCS, medications can be added, renewed, sent, and discontinued in a similar manner as other medications. However, when electronically prescribing controlled substances the two-factor authentication protocol is maintained throughout the system and must be adhered to complete the sending process. The following lists the help topics for EPCS, select the topic you would like to perform.
